Trilochana

Lord Shiva is one of the most powerful Hindu Gods. He is known by many other names like Mahadev, Adiyogi, Natraja, Mahayogi, Bholenath, and Shankar by his devotees. He is also referred to as Tryambaka, Trayambajeshwar, Trinetra or Trilochana for the third eye which is placed on the center of his forehead.

The Sanskrit word “trilochana” means one who has three eyes. Shiva is the “destroyer of evil and transforms the universe. According to mythology scripts, once Lord Shiva was in meditation, Goddess Parvati playfully covered both his eyes with her hands. Immediately, the entire universe plunged into darkness. Shiva created a third eye in the center of his forehead. Fire emerged from his third eye and he restored light in the universe.

It is believed that Lord Shiva opens his third eye in extreme situation when no more space left for forgiveness. He opens his third eye to punish the evil. It was his third eye which gave him the name of the destroyer.
