Coconut thrown by monkey kills woman

An elderly woman in Sri Lanka was killed after being hit by a coconut that was thrown by a monkey, Tamil Nesan reported.

Ranjani Kularatna, 72, was sitting in front of her house when the incident happened.

The monkey climbed a coconut tree next to her house in the Hulangamuwa village about 150km from the capital city of Colombo, picked the fruit and threw it from the tree top.

Unfortunately, it hit the woman on the head and she died from her injuries.

PALU - Search teams made desperate last-ditch efforts Friday to find survivors, a week on from Indonesia's devastating quake-tsunami, as the death toll from the disaster rose above 1,500.

The city of Palu on Sulawesi island has been left in ruins after being hit by a 7.5 magnitude quake and a wall of water, which flattened homes, ripped up trees and overturned cars.

After days of delays, international aid has finally started to arrive in the disaster zone, where the UN says almost 200,000 people are in need of humanitarian assistance.

TOKYO - Toyota Motor Corp on Friday (Oct 5) said it was recalling a total of 2.43 million gasoline hybrid vehicles at home and abroad over a hybrid system issue which can lead to stalling.

The recall, which includes Prius and Auris models, covers vehicles produced between October 2008 and November 2014.

It affects about 1.25 million vehicles sold in Japan, 830,000 vehicles in North America, and 290,000 vehicles sold in Europe. Vehicles sold in China, Africa, Oceania and other regions are also affected.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has revealed that he is awaiting the results of fresh medical tests, adding that "if it's cancer, it's cancer".

Duterte, 73, is the oldest person ever to be elected president in the country and speculation about his health has cropped up regularly since he took power in 2016.

In a speech late Thursday the president said he underwent an endoscopy and colonoscopy about three weeks ago but that he was advised this week to repeat the tests.
