Children's Illustration

Illustrations are a very important part of children’s books. When a child learns to read he finds the story easier to understand if the books have pictures.

Illustrations in books motivate kids to read. They help to strengthen the visual thinking. They simplify things in a safe manner which makes reading more understandable for kids. So it’s very important that we buy books with beautiful illustrations for kids at their early age.

Here I have sketched an E. H. Shepherd illustration from a classic children’s book by Kenneth Graham. It’s one of the all-time great animal stories. I have used a graphite pencil, pen and watercolors for this illustration.

Thanks and have a nice day ahead.

Buddha and bronzer: The Japanese monk who loves make-up

As make-up artist Kodo Nishimura sashays into a room in Tokyo balanced on pin-thin heels, he could hardly look less like a practising Buddhist monk.

But at the Tokyo temple where his father is head monk and he assists in rituals, he appears transformed. His face is bare, and he wears the plain robes of a Buddhist cleric.
