The Endless Dark Staircase

Drawing on a black paper is very challenging. It is essentially working in reverse. In the white paper, we typically start with light shading and working towards dark shadows. On black paper, it’s opposite. A dark background is already there. We do reverse shading on it like we leave dark shade as it is and transit to grey to white.

Materials I usually use for drawings on black papers are white pencils and white gel pens. For color drawings, we can use colored pencils, oil pastels, and colored chalks.

For this drawing, I took reference from a real stairs picture. I used a white pencil and white gel pen for it.

Thanks and have a nice day ahead.
