Thai family tapes child to the floor so dad can WFH in peace

Kids are a bundle of joy. Until you've got an important Zoom meeting with your boss' boss and they just can't seem to sit still, that is.

Which is why this Thai family quite literally, taped their young daughter down.

In a series of photos shared on Facebook, a mess of toys and an overturned chair can be seen scattered across the room, a young girl lies in the middle of it all, held down by clear adhesive tape with a pillow to cushion her head.

Meanwhile, a man in the background clacks away on his laptop.

"Mum is cooking, dad is working, daughter is lying in the living room," her mother wrote in her post.

The child, if anything, seems pretty contented with the arrangement, if her expression is anything to go by.

New on Sports Illustrated: Sabrina Ionescu's New York Liberty Jersey Sells Out Within One Hour of Selection

New York Liberty fans are clearly excited for Sabrina Ionescu's arrival.

New York Liberty fans are clearly excited for Sabrina Ionescu's arrival.

Less than an hour after the team selected the Oregon guard No. 1 overall in the 2020 WNBA draft, Ionescu's Liberty jersey had already sold out on WNBAStore.com.

Ionescu enters the WNBA after one of the greatest collegiate careers in history. During her senior season, Ionescu broke a slate of NCAA records. The Walnut Creek, Calif., native became the first player in NCAA Division I history (male or female) to record 2,000 career points, 1,000 career assists and 1,000 career rebounds. She also finished her college career with a record 26 triple-doubles.

The 5'11" guard dominated the Pac-12 before the 2019-20 season was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Ionescu averaged 17.5 points and 9.2 assists per game, and she ranked third in the conference in rebounding as Oregon cruised to its third consecutive Pac-12 championship.

In the wake of her selection, the Oregon product also announced she was signing with Nike. The deal is a multi-year agreement, according to ESPN's Nick DePaula.

New York added UConn forward Megan Walker with the No. 9 selection in the first round and selected Louisville guard Jazmine Jones with the final pick in the first round.

The Liberty went 10–24 last season and finished fifth in the Eastern Conference.

New on Sports Illustrated: First Overall Draft Pick Sabrina Ionescu Signs With Nike

First overall pick Sabrina Ionescu chose Nike over Under Armour and Puma.

Sabrina Ionescu, who earlier Friday night was taken with the first overall pick in the WNBA draft, announced she has signed a shoe deal with Nike. The deal is a multi-year agreement, according to ESPN's Nick DePaula.

Ionescu—who was a three-time first-team All-American selection and is the only player in college basketball history to finish with at least 2,000 career points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists—was also being pitched by competing brands Under Armour and Puma. Two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry, who has a signature shoe with Under Armour, was helping lead the recruiting efforts to try and convince Ionescu to join him.

"I have a great relationship with Steph and so that part's kind of hard," Ionescu previously told NBC Sports. "Because I've been Nike for 10 years. And then Puma's also kind of on the up-and-coming. So there's a lot of pros and cons to all of them. And so it's kind of been hard trying to figure out who I want to go with and what the best fit would be."

Ionescu wore Nike during her high school career, and later on at Oregon, where Nike co-founder Phil Knight is a major donor to the athletic department.

It's unclear whether or not Ionescu will get her own signature shoe, something that no current WNBA player has. Former players—such as Lisa Leslie, Cynthia Cooper and Rebecca Lobo—have, per NBC Sports' Logan Murdock, and Ionescu is hoping to get the same opportunity.

"I think before this all happened, I never thought about it because I didn't think it was even a possibility because women don't usually have signature shoes," Ionescu said. "And then I think listening to a lot of these companies and the goals and visions that they had to have a signature shoe down the line, I was like, 'Oh, actually that would be pretty cool.' And I feel like a lot of individuals would want to buy that shoe and wear that shoe."

New on Sports Illustrated: WNBA Honors Gianna Bryant, Alyssa Altobelli and Payton Chester on Draft Night

The three girls lost in the January helicopter crash were announced as honorary draft picks.

At the start of Friday night's 2020 WNBA draft, the league honored the three girls who were tragically lost in the Jan. 26 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Kobe Bryant and eight others. The three girls—Gianna Bryant, Alyssa Altobelli and Payton Chester— were all chosen as honorary picks by the WNBA.

Vanessa Bryant posted a video on Instagram earlier in the day to promote the special honor, with the caption: "Honorary Draft Picks:❤️Gianna Bryant❤️ ❤️ Alyssa Altobelli and Peyton Chester❤️ class of 2024."

Gianna Bryant (13 years old), Altobelli (14) and Chester (13) were teammates on Kobe Bryant's Mamba Academy team. Gianna drew praise for embodying her father's tenacity and approach to the game. "She had a better fadeaway than mine," said Sabrina Ionescu at a celebration of life in February, per USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt. "She was the future." After the honorary draft selections were announced, Ionescu was taken with the first overall pick during Friday's draft.

Altobelli, who grew up in Newport Beach, Calif., planned to follow in Ionescu's footsteps and play for Oregon in college. She was described by friends as a fierce competitor on the basketball court and a loyal friend, according to CNN's Jason Hanna.

Chester, known for her big smile, was her elementary school's go-to student when it came to welcoming new kids to the school and making them feel at ease, writes CNN's Dakin Andone. Her mother, Sarah, was also lost in the crash.

Friday's honorary draft selections were announced in alphabetical order, with each girl's jersey displayed with their Mamba Academy numbers: Bryant No. 2, Altobelli No. 5 and Chester No. 14.

New on Sports Illustrated: NFL Tells Rookies What Not to Do on Draft Night

The NFL is warning rookies about product placement during their virtual broadcast for the 2020 NFL Draft.

Here are the stories shaping both sports and business on Thursday, April 16th.

NFL is warning rookies about product placement during NFL Draft.

The NFL sent a memo to the 58 prospects scheduled to make an appearance on the NFL Draft's virtual broadcast with guidelines of acceptable behavior, clothing and even snacks. The league's main focus was for players not to have any products, brands, or logos that conflict with the league's current sponsorship partners.

The league told players they can only wear NFL Team or official league partner accessories and apparel. It also gave instructions of looking “clean” and prohibits any political statements or references to drugs and gambling according to The Action Networks Darren Rovell.

The players will receive a welcome kit that includes PepsiCo products like Frito-Lay chips and Mars Candy; Pepsi is one of the league's official sponsors.

Originally scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, the would be grand spectacle of the NFL Draft is now a virtual broadcast with players and broadcasters appearing via webcams from their homes.

Glazer's Exclusive Report Lets Down NFL Fans

Fox Sports NFL Reporter Jay Glazer teased his followers about a breaking news story for about 36 hours. There was a lot of speculation about what the report would be: Is the 2020 NFL Draft getting postponed? Is Odell Beckham Jr. getting traded?

Turns out Glazer’s story was regarding Rams center Brian Allen testing positive for COVID-19. Glazer said that Allen is the first player in the NFL to test positive for the coronavirus.

Problem is, Allen isn’t the first NFL player that tested positive. Mitchell Renz covers the Raiders and he reported the Las Vegas linebacker Quentin Polig along with his daughter and wife all tested positive for COVID-19 a month ago on March 17th.

Glazer’s video about Brian Allen has more than 745,000 views on Twitter and 2,500 replies, majority of which are blasting Glazer for leading on his followers regarding what he deemed an exclusive breaking news report.

Glazer is one of the best in the industry when it comes to breaking news, so fans were expecting something big, but as we’ve seen with no sports it’s becoming a struggle for reporters to make sure they capture their audience’s attention. Going to give Glazer a pass on this one.

Coronavirus Update

There are now over 2 million cases of the virus worldwide, and over 139,000 deaths, per data from Johns Hopkins. The U.S. has over 640,000 cases of the virus, with over 26,000 deaths.

New York has over 222,000 cases, with over 12,000 fatalities, per data from New York State’s Department of Health website.

And Spain has 182,000 cases with over 19,000 deaths. Italy has over 165,000 cases with over 21,000 deaths. New York has extended its shutdown of nonessential businesses to May 15, and Governor Andrew Cuomo has said other East Coast states will follow suit.

Switching over to the economy, jobless claims data came in at over 5.2 million. This means that there are around 22 million unemployed Americans.

TheStreet's Katherine Ross contributed to this report.

New on Sports Illustrated: 'Jeopardy!' Contestant Flubs Question About Jackie Robinson Breaking MLB Color Barrier

It was fitting that the episode of Jeopardy! that aired on Wednesday night acknowledged Jackie Robinson.

Wednesday marked the 73rd anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking MLB's color barrier by making his Brooklyn Dodgers debut. It was fitting then that the episode of Jeopardy! that aired on Wednesday night acknowledged the baseball legend.

The question seemingly obvious question from the category, "Unique College Courses" and was oddly worth $1,000.

"One of the topics covered in a Major League Baseball course at Arizona State is this player, who broke the color barrier in 1947," read Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek.

"Who is Babe Ruth?" Xiaoke, a contestant representing USC, answered.

"Nope," Trebek responded, before giving Yale's Nathaniel the chance to answer.

"Who is Jackie Robinson?" he correctly said.

Bad Jeopardy! answers aside, despite the league's indefinite suspension due to the COVID-19 crisis, teams throughout the league still managed to celebrate Jackie Robinson Day virtually on Wednesday.

Hopefully no one from MLB tuned in to the famous game show.

New on Sports Illustrated: Former WNBA Player Tamara Moore Hired as Men's HC at Mesabi Range College

Moore played six seasons in the WNBA and will be the only current woman to coach a men's college basketball team.

Newly hired men's basketball coach Tamara Moore is ready to make her mark at Mesabi Range College, a junior college where she will also serve as the head softball coach. Moore is the only current female head coach of a men's collegiate program in the country.

"Now, it's time for me to show you guys and show people that women are just as knowledgeable as men to coach the game," Moore said, per ESPN's Myron Medcalf.

Moore played in the WNBA for six seasons, averaging 4.4 points and 1.8 assists while splitting time between the Miami Sol, Minnesota Lynx, Detroit Shock, Phoenix Mercury, New York Liberty, Los Angeles Sparks and Houston Comets.

"We're excited to see what Coach Moore can do at Mesabi Range," said Tristan Spears, spokesman for the National Junior College Athletic Association, according to ESPN.

Before being hired at Mesabi Range College, Moore was the head girls' basketball coach at Edison High School in Minneapolis. She played collegiately at Wisconsin for four years, averaging 13.4 points, 4.5 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game. She earned two first-team All-Big Ten selections, and was named the Big Ten defensive player of the year in 2001. Miami selected her with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2002 draft.

Moore is not the first woman to coach a men's college basketball team. Kerri Ann McTiernan was the head men's basketball coach at Kingsborough Community College in New York City, where she also worked as the athletic director. She led the team to a conference championship in 2000. No woman has ever been the head coach of a Division I men's basketball program, though Moore hopes that will change in the near future.

"I'm honored to coach on any level," she told ESPN. "The ultimate goal for me is to be a Division I coach. I've never been doubted about my coaching ability. I just think it's all about opportunity. The message, with my hiring, is that the ceiling is now broken, and let's just take it even further."

New on Sports Illustrated: Report: NBA Planning 25-Day Window to Resume Season

Once the NBA is cleared to resume activities, the league is reportedly planning a 25-day window that would include individual workouts and five-on-five practice.

The NBA is planning a 25-day window among its efforts to resume the 2019-20 season, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst

The league is reportedly taking its time in preparing a "back-to-basketball" plan that would gradually reintroduce players to the competitive landscape. In a potential 25-day plan, players would first spend 11 days in individual workouts while practicing social distancing before being involved in two weeks of training camp, which would include five-on-five practices.

As Windhorst notes, the latter part of the plan would require clearance in order to be executed. NBA training facilities are currently closed as social distancing is being enforced across the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to ESPN's Baxter Holmes, many NBA general managers and trainers reportedly anticipate that teams will need at least a one-month period for players to properly acclimate prior to a potential resumption of the season.

If the NBA were to resume, it is unclear if teams would complete the regular season or go straight to the playoffs. If the postseason does start immediately, trainers reportedly see value in "preseason-like games" to help players return to high-intensity play.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he will not deliberate on restarting the season until at least May 1, so a potential 25-day plan is not expected to begin prior to that date. The league has also explored the feasibility of holding its entire postseason in Las Vegas, according to SI's Chris Mannix

The NBA was the first major sports league to suspend its season after Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 on March 11.
