CIGONDONG/JAKARTA, Indonesia - As Indonesia reels from the carnage of yet another natural disaster, authorities around the globe are working on how they can prepare for the kind of freak tsunami that battered coasts west of Jakarta this month.

The Dec. 23 tsunami killed around 430 people along the coastlines of the Sunda Strait, capping a year of earthquakes and tsunamis in the vast archipelago, which straddles the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire.

Anak Krakatau eruption has stopped but no-go zone stays

JAKARTA - The eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau which triggered a deadly tsunami on Dec 22 has stopped, Indonesian authorities said on Sunday (Dec 30).

Seismographic data from Sertung Islands, a cluster of islands near Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait, show that there were no more unusual tremors in the volcano, with the average amplitude of volcanic activity standing at 10mm, the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Centre (PVMBG) said in a statement.

Anak Krakatau's average amplitude during an eruption is 25mm to 30mm.

Tamil Nesan reported that the 19-year-old boy in Tamil Nadu had been donating blood since 2016.

He also donated blood early this month for a relative who needed a transfusion but it wasn't known then that he had the virus.

He only found out about his condition when he underwent a full blood test as part of his application to work in a foreign country.
